The summer is already nearly over for us – Atti goes back to full time school August 8th – and we haven’t done a thing with it. Well, if you don’t count maxed out work loads, a family reunion, and a (shhh) likely move. (Just houses, no big announcements.) Atti is old enough now to be tons of fun so we decided we needed to take advantage of the remaining summer and have some classic fun.

My pals at Fresh and Easy asked us to throw an ice cream social and I knew it was the perfect thing to cross off our summer list first. Of course, things didn’t go quite as planned, because they never ever do for us, but I’ll get into that in a second.

We invited a few friends over and hit Fresh and Easy for ice cream supplies. And we did not skimp. Fresh fruit to go with the tart frozen yogurt, nuts and cookies and my own stroke of genius – chocolate covered pretzel pieces.

I bought a couple of pieces of chocolate mousse cake and ate it with cherries and vanilla ice cream, Bear ate chocolate mint ice cream with crushed oreos on top, I went back for chocolate mint with pretzels, there was strawberry with nuts, and Bear made his version of an Its-it – ice cream sandwiches made with peanut butter chocolate chip cookies.

We were all set for a fantastic party, and then had to cancel the whole thing the day of. Our boy cat Gizmo ate something he shouldn’t have and absolutely destroyed our living room. We had to drop everything and go buy a steam cleaner because the scent was unbearable. So, no friends over when the house is in that condition.

We were left to party all by ourselves. It was a really sacrifice trying to put all that ice cream and fixings away just the three of us. A chore, I tell you.

So, a big neighborhood party surrounded by friends and kids chasing around the lawn, not so much. But the family ice cream party was still a success. And I only had to share my treats with Atticus.
**Disclaimer: Fresh and Easy sent me a $25 gift card to make this ice cream party happen, but I work with them because I genuinely love them. All thoughts and pictures are my own.
