400th post giveaway!

I had not planned on slowing down for the summer, but, as I really should have learned by now, I seem to have very little control over how things go in my life. Atti’s still recovering and doing awesome but his eyes just look gruesome right now. The white part is still red and blistery looking, and his blue/hazel eyes are set off in such stark contrast against it that it’s a little bit spooky. On top of that, I was used to a little cross-eyed baby and now I have these bloody blue eyes peering directly into me. It’s a little bit disconcerting.

I’ve been running around like crazy behind the scenes here, trying to make some career opportunities happen, trying to track down the cause of all these nerve-wracking chest pains, and trying to not blow my top at any medical professional who doesn’t listen to me. I guess some people think that it’s calming if the doctor doesn’t seem terribly concerned, but all you have to do is have one doctor call you crazy and suddenly any attempts at calmness just seem like you’re not being taken seriously.

I have been neglecting you my dear blog, and I have a bunch I have to share, but for today I thought I’d throw a little party. My five year anniversary is coming in November and I have a bunch of stuff planned for that, but I couldn’t resist a mini-celebration for hitting the big 4-0-0. You guys have meant so much to me, particularly over the last year. The needs of my little man keep me fairly isolated from my community, but I don’t feel that loss for a moment because I have such a supportive and nurturing group of people cheering me on. Really, I can’t say enough how much I value you all.

So, leave me a little comment (make sure you enter an email address or leave a link) and I will draw one winner at random who will get to select *any* item they wish from my shop. That’s right, one free item of your choice just for coming by and saying hi. I’ll pick a winner on Friday, at 9am Pacific time.

Because I love you guys, and sometimes I just don’t say it enough.

Oh, the post-op description sounds so icky!!!! Thankfully, I never needed eye surgery. My mom said she hated changing my dressings after my hip surgery though as they smelled awful! I had a tube in my hip for a while to drain the rest of my infection out so I choose to believe her as I don't remember!Lots of hugs for you and little Atti! Kate

I think that operation will be of great value in the long run. I had that operation at the age of 2.Someone I knew in High School I believe also had fertility problems from endometriosis. And, 2 other women I know described the horrific pain endometriosis creates.Dopey internet hugs.-Mike H.

Hi Reese- I don't need to win anything, as I've been meaning to post a comment and say hello. I found your blog a couple of months ago, through your fairy-lights tutorial (brilliant, by the way, and I have a string of lights set by to use for my own!) I ended up spending 2 hours reading your entire blog backwards, all the way to the beginning. I was in tears at parts. I look forward to your posts because of your honesty and determination to keep seeing the pleasures, is it a small comfort to let you know that I've found you inspiring? Thanks for your blog. I'll keep being a lurker, if you don't mind…..x Sarah (another crafty mom.)

  8. Jessica says:

This is the first time I've commented on here, I think, after a long time of being a lurker. And really, I'm not signing up to win anything. The main reason I'm finally writing to you is that the health problems you mention sound similar to what I was experiencing before I found out I have celiac disease. Have you been blood tested for that? I know it's not completely reliable – a lot of people just gluten-elimination and it helps them. I know that when I did, all the things that were wrong with me (and there were a LOT) started reversing after 2 weeks of being gluten-free. I don't want to be one of those people who throws around unsolicited advice – but I remember feeling so desperate for an answer to what was wrong with me, and being told after tons of tests and money spent that I should see a psychologist instead, and how devastating that felt. So I guess I'm just mentioning this to you because if it can help you in any way, that would be great. I hope you're able to figure out what's wrong! Also, yay for Atti for pulling through his eye surgery. Best wishes for all of you.

  11. Jill in CA says:

Saying Hi :) I hope Atti recovers from the eye surgery soon; that must have been hard for you!

  12. Janet says:

I had eye surgery too and don't worry – the "horror movie" eyes will go away in no time. But take pictures :) its fun to freak people out!I am so happy that you are able to find comfort and support in the community you have built around you. I can't speak for everyone who reads your blog, but I can tell you that I cheer for you in times of joy and pray for you in times of stress.

  13. Jenni says:

happy 400th entry! =)I know what you mean about the doctors too… i have had a weird pain in my side for awhile now and every doctor says its nothing to be concerned about and the its placement isn't around anything that should cause that kind of pain. i just want to yell at them sometimes… just cause there shouldn't be a pain there doesn't mean there isn't!

  14. mfranti says:

wow, T, i had no idea how popular you are.keep up the good work,M

  15. Moriah says:

  18. minervabird says:

Our friend's son had to have the same operation for strabismus, and post-op it wasn't pretty to look at. But now he looks straight at you, and is a happy and healthy little boy. Hurrah for Atti!I don't post a lot on here, but I have been following your story for some time. I hope you figure out the source of your health problems, and don't worry about the docs. Often when they don't know what is wrong, they find it convenient to blame the patient.Best,Anna Marie
